NEOCID
Instructions for use

International name: Calcium carbonate + Magnesium carbonate. (Calcium carbonate + Magnesium carbonate)
Pharmacological group: Antacid agent of mineral origin.
Dosage form: Chewable tablets.
Composition: Active substance: Calcium carbonate 680 mg, Magnesium carbonate 80 mg.
Excipients: Sugar, sodium saccharin, magnesium stearate, talc, polyvinylpyrrolidone, gelatin, corn starch, peppermint oil, lemon flavoring.
Pharmacological action:
“NEOCID” is a pharmacological agent with antacid and gastroprotective effects. The active components of NEOCID – calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate – react chemically with hydrochloric acid in gastric juice when they enter the stomach, neutralizing it and forming soluble calcium and magnesium salts and water. Under the influence of magnesium, mucus production increases, which protects gastric cells from the harmful effects of hydrochloric acid. In cases of increased gastric acidity and pain, “NEOCID” provides a rapid and prolonged therapeutic effect.
Pharmacokinetics: The effect of the product occurs within 3–5 minutes after administration, which is attributed to the good solubility of the tablets and their high calcium content.
The degree of absorption of calcium and magnesium depends on the administered dose. The maximum absorption level is 10% for calcium and 15–20% for magnesium. A small amount of absorbed calcium and magnesium is excreted by the kidneys. In case of impaired renal function, excretion decreases and plasma levels of calcium and magnesium may increase. The soluble calcium and magnesium salts formed as a result of interaction with gastric juice form insoluble compounds in the intestine, which are excreted with the feces.
Recommended use: Used as an adjunct in complex therapy.
For reducing increased gastric acidity.
Method of administration and dosage: Adults and children over 12 years of age, unless otherwise prescribed by a physician, should take 1–2 tablets to reduce increased gastric acidity: the tablet should be chewed or kept in the mouth until completely dissolved.
If necessary, the dose may be repeated after 2 hours.
The maximum daily dose is 16 tablets.
Special instructions: Long-term use of the parapharmaceutical product is not recommended.
When prescribing to patients with diabetes mellitus, it should be taken into account that “NEOCID” contains 61 mg of sugar.
Side effects: NEOCID is well tolerated when taken at the recommended doses; however, the following side effects may occur: allergic reactions, diarrhea.
In patients with severe renal impairment, prolonged use of NEOCID may lead to the development of hypercalcemia and hypermagnesemia.
Contraindications:
· Hypersensitivity to the components contained in NEOCID;
· Acute renal failure;
· Hypercalcemia;.
Pregnancy and lactation: NEOCID may be used during pregnancy and lactation as prescribed by a physician. Administration at the recommended doses does not pose a risk to the health of the fetus or newborn.
Effect on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery: Administration of NEOCID does not affect the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery.
Interaction with other medicinal products: When administered concomitantly, “NEOCID” may alter the absorption rate and plasma concentration of other medicinal products. Therefore, it is recommended that other medicines be taken at an interval of 1–2 hours.
When administered concomitantly, “NEOCID” reduces the absorption of indomethacin, salicylates, H2-histamine blockers, β-adrenoblockers, antibiotics of the tetracycline group, and iron-containing preparations. It enhances the effects of sulfadiazine, levodopa, and acetylsalicylic acid.
Overdose: Prolonged use of NEOCID in high doses in patients with impaired renal function may cause hypercalcemia, hypermagnesemia, and alkalosis, manifested by nausea, vomiting, and muscle weakness.
In such cases, administration of NEOCID should be discontinued. Symptomatic treatment is indicated. There is no specific antidote.
