Pharmacological group: Laxative.
Dosage form: Capsules.
Composition: Crushed buckthorn fruits (Fructus Rhamni catharticae) – 0.297 g; excipient: calcium stearate;
Buckthorn fruit powder contains anthraglycosides (4%), including frangulaemodin, chrysophanol (also known as glucofrangulin), rhamnoxatin (frangulin), and the bioside of frangula-emodin – josterin. The fruit powder also contains tannins, carbohydrates, organic acids, anthocyanins, resins, and flavonoids (quercetin, rhamnetin, kaempferol, rhamnocitrin).
Pharmacological action: “ZHOSTERIN” has a laxative effect due to its content of anthraglycosides. These substances irritate intestinal interoreceptors and enhance peristalsis, acting on the large intestine and promoting its rapid evacuation.
The laxative effect develops after 8–10 hours. The slow and predominantly large-intestine-specific action of the product is explained by the gradual breakdown of anthraglycosides in the intestine. The active substance accumulates in a sufficient amount to produce a laxative effect only when it reaches the large intestine.
Indications: Used as an adjunct in complex therapy. Used for atonic and spastic constipation. In addition to its primary action, it exhibits local anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, demulcent, and bactericidal properties. Recommended for use in colitis, hemorrhoids, rectal ulcers, and fissures.
Contraindications:
• Hypersensitivity to the components of the product;
• Hemorrhagic bleeding;
• Chronic cholecystitis.
Method of administration and dosage:
Take 1 capsule once daily, before bedtime, every other day, regardless of meal timing.
The duration of administration and dosing interval are determined individually.
Pediatric use: Not studied.
Side effects: Spastic abdominal pain, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, discoloration of urine, allergic reactions.
Precautions: The product should be administered with caution during pregnancy and lactation, in hepatic and/or renal insufficiency, and during the postoperative period following surgery on the abdominal organs.
Pregnancy and lactation: Not studied.
Effect on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery: Does not affect the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery.
Interaction with other medicinal products: Inhibits the absorption of tetracycline.
Packaging: 10 capsules per PVC/Alu blister, 2 blisters in a cardboard box.
Storage: Store at room temperature, in a dry place protected from light.
Shelf life: 2 years;
The product must not be used after the expiry date or if any defects are detected during visual inspection.
Dispensing conditions: Pharmaceutical product group III – available without a prescription.
