International nonproprietary name (INN): Mukaltin – Dry extract of the aerial parts of Althaea officinalis.

Pharmacotherapeutic group: Herbal expectorant.

Dosage form: Syrup.

Composition:

• Active substance: Mukaltin (dry extract of the aerial parts of Althaea) – 2.0 g;
• Excipients: Raspberry and strawberry flavorings, sorbic acid or methylparaben, ethyl alcohol, sugar syrup – up to 125 g.

Plants contained in the preparation include a complex of biologically active substances: Mucilage, essential oils, flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol), coumarins, anthocyanins, organic acids (citric, malic, salicylic), vitamin C, pectins, carotene.

Pharmacological action: Mukaltin syrup calms coughs, covers the damaged mucous membrane with a thin layer, softens and dissolves dense inflammatory plaques (of the throat, larynx, and vocal cords), accelerates the regeneration of damaged mucosa, protects respiratory tract nerve endings from irritation, improves appetite, and reduces the sensation of thirst.

Indications: Used in complex therapy as an adjuvant treatment for acute and chronic respiratory tract diseases:

• Bronchitis;
• Pneumonia;
• Bronchiectasis;
• Tracheitis;
• Laryngitis;
• Tonsillitis (Angina).

Side effects: Allergic reactions.
In case of side effects, the patient should discontinue treatment and consult a doctor.
If any side effects occur that are not listed in the package leaflet, the patient should consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Dosage and administration: Orally, before meals.

• Adults: 15 ml syrup 3–4 times daily.
• Children aged 1 to 3 years: 2.5 ml syrup 2–3 times daily;
• Children aged 3 to 6 years: 5 ml syrup 2–3 times daily;
• Children aged 6 to 12 years: 10 ml syrup 2–3 times daily;

(The specified doses may be diluted in water).

The duration of treatment is determined individually by the physician.

Missed dose: Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Take the next dose as soon as possible or continue according to the original schedule.

Pediatric use: Not for use in children under one year of age.

Contraindications:

• Diabetes mellitus.
• Due to the presence of strawberry flavoring in the syrup, an individual allergic skin rash accompanied by severe itching may occur.

Pregnancy and lactation: The preparation can be used during pregnancy and lactation as prescribed by a doctor.

Effects on ability to drive and use machines: The preparation does not affect the ability to drive and use machines.

Drug interactions: The preparation is not recommended for co-administration with antitussives or codeine-containing medicines.

Special warnings: Not prescribed to children under one year of age.

Overdose:
Symptoms: Nausea, vomiting.
Treatment: Discontinuation of the preparation.

Precautions: Administer with caution to patients with diabetes mellitus, as well as during pregnancy and lactation.

Packaging:

• Primary packaging: 125 g of syrup in an amber glass or polymer bottle.
• Secondary packaging: One bottle is placed in a cardboard box along with the package leaflet.

Shelf life: 3 years.
It is prohibited to use the preparation after the expiry date or if defects are detected upon visual inspection.

Storage conditions: Store at a temperature of 15–25°C, protected from light.

Terms of dispensing from pharmacies: Pharmaceutical product group III – dispensed without a prescription (Over-the-Counter).
