Pharmacotherapeutic group: Expectorant agent.

Dosage form: Effervescent powder in sachets.

Composition of one sachet:

• Active substances: Mukaltin (dry extract of the aerial parts of Althaea) – 50 mg; Peppermint oil – 5.77 mg;
• Excipients: Sodium hydrogen carbonate, citric acid, lactose, saccharin, strawberry flavor, polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyethylene glycol.

The preparation contains a complex of biologically active substances: Polysaccharides, essential oils, flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol), coumarins, anthocyanins, organic acids (citric, malic, salicylic), vitamin C, pectins, carotene.

Pharmacological action:
"Mukaltin" effervescent powder exhibits expectorant, soothing (mucous membrane softening), and anti-inflammatory properties.
The expectorant effect of the preparation is provided by the dry extract of the aerial parts of Althaea – Mukaltin, which enhances the movement of the ciliary epithelium of the bronchial mucosa and bronchial mucus secretion, liquefies phlegm, and facilitates its clearance from the respiratory tract.
Peppermint oil is characterized by bactericidal, antimicrobial, and expectorant actions and relieves spasms, thereby enhancing the pharmacological activity of Mukaltin. It reduces inflammatory processes in the respiratory tract and runny nose during cold symptoms.
The preparation exerts a softening action on mucous membranes, thereby reducing respiratory tract mucosal irritation and inflammation, and accelerating the regeneration of damaged mucosa.

Pharmacokinetics: The degree of absorption depends on the ingested dose; it is primarily absorbed from the duodenum and small intestine.

Indications: Used in complex therapy as an adjuvant treatment for acute and chronic respiratory tract diseases:

• Bronchitis;
• Pneumonia;
• Bronchiectasis;
• Tracheitis;
• Laryngitis;
• Tonsillitis (Angina).

Dosage and administration: Orally, before meals.
The effervescent powder should be dissolved in 100 ml of warm water.

• Adults and children over 12 years of age: Contents of 1–2 sachets 3–4 times daily.
• Children aged 1 to 3 years: Contents of 1/4 – 1/2 sachet 1–4 times daily;
• Children aged 3 to 6 years: Contents of 1/2 – 1 sachet 1–4 times daily;
• Children aged 6 to 12 years: Contents of 1 sachet 1–4 times daily.

The duration of treatment is 7–15 days, depending on the severity of the condition.

Side effects: Due to the presence of strawberry flavor in the preparation, individual allergic reactions may occur: skin rash, itching, urticaria.

Contraindications: Allergic reactions to the components of the preparation.

Overdose: No information regarding cases of overdose is available.

Pregnancy and lactation: The preparation can be used during pregnancy and lactation.

Drug interactions: The preparation can be taken in combination with other expectorants.

Effects on ability to drive and use machines: Does not affect the ability to drive and use machines.

Packaging: Effervescent powder in a sachet. 10 sachets are placed in a cardboard box along with the package leaflet.

Shelf life: 3 years.
It is prohibited to take the preparation after the expiry date or if defects are detected upon visual inspection.

Storage conditions: Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C, in a dry place protected from light.
