REHYDRON NEO

A dietary supplement for compensating for dehydration.

Dosage form: Powder for the preparation of an oral solution.

Ingredients: Glucose – 5 g; Sodium chloride – 1.75 g; Sodium citrate – 1.45 g; Potassium chloride – 1.25 g.
Excipients: Cherry or lemon flavoring, sodium saccharin, colloidal silicon dioxide.

Pharmacological action: The main purpose of using the preparation is to restore the acid-base balance, which is disrupted by the loss of electrolytes during vomiting and diarrhea. The glucose contained in "Rehydron Neo" promotes the absorption of salts and citrates and helps maintain acid-base equilibrium.
Pharmacokinetics: The elimination half-life (T1/2) is 1 hour. Excreted by the kidneys.

Indications: Used in complex therapy as an adjuvant treatment for the prevention of dehydration.

Dosage and administration: The contents of 1 sachet should be dissolved in 0.5 L of freshly boiled water cooled to room temperature.
For children, 1 teaspoon of "Rehydron Neo" powder should be dissolved in 250 ml of freshly boiled water cooled to room temperature.
In case of nausea and vomiting, it is advisable to take the solution chilled, in small portions.

• Neonates and children: 1–2 teaspoons of solution administered at 5–10 minute intervals over 4–6 hours.
• Adults: Taken in small portions (50–100 ml) at 3–5 minute intervals over 3–5 hours.

For rehydration, "Rehydron Neo" is taken during the first 6–10 hours in an amount double the body weight lost. For example, if the weight loss is 400 g, 800 ml of "Rehydron Neo" solution should be administered.
If diarrhea continues, "Rehydron Neo", water, and other fluids should be taken over a 24-hour period according to the following schedule:

After dehydration symptoms decrease, the dose of "Rehydron Neo" may be reduced to 5–10 ml/kg, administered after each subsequent loose stool; additionally, following each episode of vomiting, an extra dose of 10 ml/kg is given.
Typically, the preparation is taken for no more than 3–4 days.

Contraindications: Impaired renal function; diabetes mellitus; loss of consciousness; intestinal obstruction; hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation.

Side effects: When taken in recommended doses, it does not cause side effects. There is a potential possibility of allergic reactions.

Overdose:
Symptoms: Taking large volumes or highly concentrated solutions of "Rehydron Neo" may lead to hypernatremia (weakness, drowsiness, confusion, coma, and occasionally respiratory arrest). In patients with impaired renal function, metabolic alkalosis may develop, manifested as decreased pulmonary ventilation.

Pregnancy and lactation: "Rehydron Neo" may be used during pregnancy and lactation in recommended doses.

Effects on ability to drive and use machines: The preparation does not affect the ability to drive or operate machinery.

Warnings and precautions: In cases of vomiting and diarrhea, treatment with "Rehydron Neo" should be initiated as early as possible and continued until diarrhea ceases (typically no more than 3–4 days). No other components should be added to the solution so as not to alter the preparation's action.
If symptoms such as drowsiness, disorientation, high fever, anuria (cessation of urine excretion), blood in stool develop during the use of "Rehydron Neo", or if diarrhea persists for more than 5 days, a physician must be consulted immediately.

Drug interactions: "Rehydron Neo" has an alkaline reaction, which must be taken into account when co-administered with drugs whose absorption depends on specific pH levels.

Packaging: 10 g powder in a sachet. 10 sachets are placed in a cardboard box together with the instruction leaflet.

Storage conditions: Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C in a dry place, protected from light.
The prepared solution must be stored in a refrigerator (at 2–8°C) for no longer than 24 hours.

Prescription status: Non-prescription (OTC).
